Todd:

I have serious doubts whether the fuel pump ever runs for a few seconds at key on, on 9000s or C900s, as is asserted by many, including in Ari's famous no-start checklist. I flat don't hear it on my car; my hearing is pretty good.

A good test of the fuel pump, I think also in Ari's checklist, is to jumper from the visible metal patch at top of a fuse for a circuit that's on all the time, to the bare metal patch at top of the fuel pump fuse. You should be able to hear the dull rumble of the fuel pump back in the tank, and, if it's quiet, hear the rush of excess fuel passing through the fuel rail and the fuel pressure regulator on its way back to the tank.

If you're hearing something on all the time the key is on, it may well be something besides the fuel pump.

My suggestions are, try squirting a little fuel or carb cleaner into the intake manifold thru a vacuum port, and crank the car then. If it roars, then dies, you have a lack-of-fuel problem.

But, maybe first of all and in my experience most likely, get a spare DI cassette that you know IS good, and try that. If you're in Massachusetts maybe there's a nearby fellow 9000 owner with a cassette you could try, or who'll test your spare on his car so you'll know if it's any good.

This being the weekend, any saviors not busy who can help Todd out? Where in Mass., Todd?
