I run Shell Rotella T6 5W40 synthetic. Been using Rotella since 145K miles, now at 188K changing at 5K intervals with no problems. Mann filter. Upper engine very clean when I replaced the valve cover gasket recently, which is typical with synthetic oil use. My car still has the original O2 sensors and CAT, all working normally with this oil, so no emissions worries either.
If you're tempted by Amazon's price on M1 5W-40, then check out a gallon of Rotella T6 at your local Walmart. Probably under $25/gallon.
Changing at a sensible interval matters more than what you put in. Have no fear of oils in the correct viscosity range that are suitable for both gasoline and diesel engines.
