To some degree that is normal with an automatic. Bad mounts can make it worse. A bad upper mount is tough on the lower mounts and the flex pipe, since it allows more engine movement.
After seeing newer cars with a weight on their upper mount dog-bone, I added a weight to our 97. It did not make the in car vibration worse. The vibration level between neutral and drive is about the same. It would take some vibration measurements to get a handle on the effect of adding a weight.
