That switch truly is a POS. Mine just broke last month (Aero) and I just replaced it last week after having the old one sticking out of the dash like Noel's. My failure rate is close to 100% on that switch. FWIW, I pop out the SID first whenever digging in the dash. It seems easiest to get out first for me. I just pry up and out at the bottom of the SID. I can usually get the 4-way flasher switch retrieved w/o removing anything else. I pull the switch out the SID hole, unplug it, fish the plug back through the 4-way hole and plug the switch back in on the outside of the dash. I usually leave the switch sticking out of the dash about 1/2 inch. Like derf/dref says, it's about a minute fix. I have two broken switches. I've tried superglue but it doesn't work very well. I'm going to try Gorilla glue next. My CSE is on switch #3. I'm always very careful when I push them but it doesn't seem to matter. It doesn't help that the switch is "backward". My wife pushed the first one through the dash because she didn't realize that.
