SO,
I posted a week or so ago about hard shifting in my '93 aero 5spd. Since that post, I managed to successfully drain out almost 2 quarts of old transmission oil using the siphon technique and replaced with dino 10w30. It was tricky getting the old oil out as the car had to be positioned in my driveway so that it sloped right to left, leaving the tranny at a low point. The siphon hose also had to be finessed into the back left corner of the tranny. My dad and I also flushed the clutch fluid using a homemade pressure bleeder cap. We found that you definitely have to keep the fluid in the reservoir full up to the top and that it helps to have someone depress the clutch, while the other adds pressure to the reservoir, and then pull the clutch pedal back and bleed some fluid out. Repeat until the pedal feels good and the fluid comes out clear with no air. After doing this my clutch pedal feel is much improved and my shifting is way smoother! I have very little trouble with 1st and 2nd now. I have a feeling the clutch may have been hanging a bit before as well because power delivery when accelerating seems to be smoother and more direct once in gear. Along with transmission oil and clutch fluid, the coolant, engine oil and power steering fluid have all been changed recently so I just need to flush the brake lines and Ill have fresh fluids in all systems of the car. What a difference!
