My '97 9k 5spd has a front end vibration, only under load. When coasting or braking it isn't there. It increases in intensity with increasing load and road speed, but seems to be rpm independent. It also seems to vary somewhat randomly, at times being very pronounced, other times more subtle (under virtually identical conditions). I recently had the car up on the lift for about 6-8 weeks, and in that time I've forgotten exactly what the car drove like before, so I can't say if this has been a gradual progression or a sudden onset. I was working mostly on body rust, but I also replaced the left drive axle, and had the inner driver off as well for inspection. Near the end of my repairs, the lift failed and the car ended up on the floor with all the wheels off. It came down relatively slowly, and only a small portion of the weight of the car was on the brake rotors because I had risers under the four lift spots about 8 inches high. I'm trying to figure out where I should start investigating. Given it only occurs under load, it seems to me it would be drive train related rather than suspension or alignment. Any advice would be appreciated.
