a/c diagnosis Posted by TML [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
A/C in one of my cars has stopped working. I've had lots of problems in my other car, but the a/c in this one has been problem free for several years until now. Relevant history: about a month ago I needed a/c for the first time, and found it not working. I checked the pressures, and the low side was too low, about 15psi. I topped it up with Duracool to about 35psi; everything worked fine for about three weeks, then gradually cooling got less and less. I checked pressures again, and it was again a little low, about 24psi. I topped it up again, but this time it didn't help. My pressures on both sides look good (34psi / 190 psi), obviously the pressure switches and compressor are working. I have a slow leak, since it did lose some refrigerant over a month period, but not enough of one to cause it to suddenly not work at all. I've verified the flap actuator is working correctly. The return line to the compressor is warm. Right now I'm thinking it's the expansion valve, although I think typically the pressures go out to lunch when those fail. Anything else I can test before I evacuate the system?
