Thank You all for your suggestions. I was able to get it out by sticking a socket that fit firmly in the tube then using a 4" extension in the socket continuously moved around in a circular motion while prying one of the ears with a screw driver. Also used penetrating fluid. Little by little it got loose and came out. It was really stuck.
As far as the damage, it is only the outside lip, about 1/4 of an inch missing. The surface area where the rubber O ring sits is fine. So I am thinking that it will probably be leak free and the o ring will stay in place.
I am also thinking of adding a small amount of Aviation form a gasket on the O ring for extra protection against leaks instead of the petroleum jelly.
Has anyone used Aviation form a gasket in this application? Should be ok do I hope.
Thanks in advance.
Tony
