Re: P0118 - Coolant Temp Sensor? Posted by sam96CS [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: P0118 - Coolant Temp Sensor?, Jonathan Scupin ![]() ![]() |
P0118 means the voltage at the sensor was >4.8V for 5 seconds with the ignition switch in the on position. 4.8 V is outside the expected range of 0.26V (coolant temp at 230 degrees F) to 4.5V (coolant temp at -22 degrees F).
I think you'll find that your temp sensor has too much resistance. Normal amounts of resistance are as follows (in degrees F):
-22 degrees = 20,000 to 30,000 ohms
-14 degrees = 7,000 to 11,400 ohms
68 degrees = 2,100 to 2,900 ohms
104 degrees = 1,000 to 1,300 ohms
140 degrees = 565 to 670 ohms
176 degrees = 295 to 365 ohms
194 degrees = 240 to 260 ohms
230 degrees = 140 to 160 ohms
The ECU expects the signal from the temp sensor should make sense. Yours isn't making sense. If the sensor's resistance is in the expected range, then the problem is somewhere else.
