I just picked up the Aero from my indy after having the clutch, slave, throwout bearing and rear main seal replaced. I supplied the parts except for the rear main. I bought a Genuine Saab clutch kit and a Genuine Saab slave cylinder from eEuro. The clutch disc and pressure plate were Sachs parts and the part numbers looked right. The throwout bearing was shot so I decided to do the whole thing as I didn't know how long the clutch had been in the car and it's a lot of labor to get in there. The car has over 200K on it. The indy said the throwout bearing was "shattered". I knew it was porked and I parked it a while ago as I could tell it was getting pretty bad. I dunno, maybe he's just a Rolling Stones fan. I've never seen one "shattered". The clutch disc was also down to the rivets so I expect it's the original clutch. There was a little oil in there so I'm glad I did the rear main. Flywheel was OK, no burned spots. I suspect my clutch chatter was due to oil.
The question I have is about the "feel" of a new clutch. This is my second 9000 Aero 5 spd and they both had somewhat stiff clutches and plenty of miles on them. Plenty of feel all the way through the pedal stroke. The new clutch has almost no feel. The pedal goes all the way to the floor with no increase in pedal pressure. I asked him how he bleeds them and he uses a pressure bleeder. The pedal is not really spongy, but it takes very little force to go all the way to the floor. Is this normal and related to all new parts or is something amiss? The clutch disengages fine, it just feels weird.
