Much as I like my 9000, I will admit that Audi, BMW or Mercedes have superior handling and ride quality (I owned an A4 and an A6). Macpherson struts (as used on 9000s) were developed as a cost and space-saving arrangement, the four unequal-length control arm setup used on the German cars were not. The Macpherson strut setup was improved upon with the optional setup (forgot what they called this) used on the higher model 2011 9-5s and some Buicks.
