Some of you may recognize my handle, MikeTX. I previously owned a '96 900SE convertible (purchased new in Germany) and a '86 9000S, but have not owned a Saab in 4 years. I've been interested in picking up an Aero before they become unobtanium, so I recently picked up a 95 9000 Aero in silver that was listed in these classifieds. I wanted a '96 or '97, but got tired of waiting. The car came to me from Florida (second owner- 4yrs), but spent most of its time in Missouri. I have all the paperwork going back to the window sticker. The $42,220 includes the $450 traction control option.
The good news is the car does not have any rust, except for the exhaust which looks like it is 95% rust. The paint is very good and the seats do not have any tears.
Having previously owned Saab's and Audi's I am more than happy to wrench on my own cars. Here is a list of projects I've compiled so far:
1) Leaking valve cover gasket- easy job which I've completed already
2) passenger front bearing is making noise
3) passenger CV boot is torn (somehow I win with 2 & 3 being on the same side)
4) Car does not like full throttle- solved with new spark plugs
5) ugly pinstripes- problem solved removed with an eraser wheel
6) driver seat bottom cushion is shot
7) front edge of drivers seat does not raise or lower. I can hear it click and try to do something. It sounds stuck or jammed.
8) tachometer does not work at all
9) fuel gauge reads E and warning light comes on, but only takes 10 gallons to fill.
10) thermostat never reads above 1/3 warm even in 90+ degree heat
11) A/C line has a leak
12) SRS light is on
13) Traction control light comes on immediately, so I must shut off with the switch.
14) My HVAC fan has three speeds- off, slow and high. When I start the car it always starts at high speed. The fan squeaks in slow speed.
15) Is the small cabin temp sensor fan suppose to run for a few minutes after the car is shut off?
16) The lights for the radio preset buttons doesn't work. I have removable security plate.
17) The wheel center caps paint is peeling
18) The whole ashtray is missing. Kind of a strange thing to remove and leave a whole in the dash.
19) Lastly the headlight washers don't work. It doesn't snow in TX so this one is last.
Items 2 and 3 I plan on taking care of tomorrow. The remaining I will pick off with the great resource that is Saabnet. I look forward to contributing where I can.
Happy Saabing,
