Today I finally got around to taking my drivers side door lock apart. For a couple of months the lock has behaved weirdly, having no resistance going up and down. Sometimes it would lock by itself going over bumps. Often I'd have to use the key to hold open the lock when pulling on the door handle or the door wouldn't open.
Turned out it was a tiny spring that had broken. It has 1-2 coils and provides resistance when going back and forth from locked to unlocked.
With a lot of fiddling, I managed to put in a spring from another lock assembly I had lying around.
Anyone else experience this?
