air conditioner rigging

Hi all.
I have a 95 9k CSE and have had a bit of bad fortune with the last mechanic I used and the air conditioner compressor. I had the water pump replaced and Im assuming they took off the air conditioner for access. When I decided ( a couple years later) to try to fix the a/c I was told by Dan at Swedish Auto Factory in San Jose, CA that the bolt holes for securing the compressor to the block are stripped. He quoted me at a large sum to fix "the correct way". I don't have the money to pay them to do it. I am wondering if gluing threaded studs into the stripped holes, so that the compressor is secure, is a viable solution. I commute in the East bay and spend a lot of time sweating in the hot car. I almost bought another car today, but I want to keep the Saab and try to get some cool air blowing.
If I were to proceed with this plan, what info would I need to consult as to make it less of a project?
Thanks for any advice.
