...problem out there? 5 spd, 235K on it - no mods - basically all factory orig. Have owned it since 35K and have 7 Saabs currently and have owned exclusively Saabs for 25-30 years now and have never experienced this on any before.
I searched posts and can't find anything. Car was very well maintained and a great runner. It was driven a short distance in 15 degree weather today and parked. A minute later flames were shooting out of passenger front corner by turn signal/cornering light. Fog light area torched also and completely gone.
Fortunately my son contained the fire to that corner area with a fire extinguisher. But after fire department sprayed it with water, it is hard to see what might have happened and extent of damage at this point. Fire department said it looked like a short in turn signal area started it but they don't know for sure of course. The passenger fender is trashed also of course. I'm hoping it can be saved and we will if at all possible. I absolutely loved that car. It was black beauty with a black Aero interior (only modification done to the car and that switch out is basically plug and play).
I know cornering lights on lots of 9000's have melted areas on them near the clear cornering part of the light assembly - I'm thinking that the wiring there melted and caused a short? OR the poor design of the Bosch fog lights with the arcing of the rusty clips that hold the fog light in?
If anyone knows of any known problems, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Steve
