You might be a little spoiled from the C900 :)
I followed the Quasi procedure and it was great and very detailed. Agreed from you description that it's almost certainly the clutch. Do replace the slave (with OEM) and the pilot bearing. The rear main is always a huge debate on most cars so I won't really weigh in except I didn't do it myself and the advice I've always heard is to seat it at a slightly different depth the the one your remove.
Considering the amount of stuff you remove, surprisingly I can't think of any 'while you're in there' items. I guess you'll have slightly better access to the inner driver boots if they're looking rough, or if you want to replace the rubber hose to the clutch slave. You could do the rubber transmission mount too.
I used a 4x4 with a couple 2x4 extensions (probably the same thing Qausi uses, I can't recall) and I used ratchet straps to support the engine and raise/lower the trans. That was a little tough though I can't think of a better way unless you have or want to rent an engine hoist which would definitely make your life easier. Make sure you raise the car enough to get the transmission out too, you can angle it to help but it needs to be pretty high. I assume you're up on bleeding the clutch too.
