Throttle cable is chafing; Are new ones out there?

I have a little trouble due to my old browser not wanting to hook up to Eeuro so I'm just lazy and asking here: Can I buy a new throttle cable if this gets worse?
Just reinstalled it after a head gasket job and noticed, just where it emerges from the plastic elbow for the straight across to the throttle, it has some broken strands that are poking up and catching a bit as it moves.
It's just a few strands but I know this ain't good.
If there weren't plastic everywhere I'd try cleaning it good with solvent and tinner's acid and see if I could get a little solder to wick into the immediate local area, where it's not flexing. Then use a tiny file to clean up the projecting burrs, without nicking the remaining cable.
Someone on here made his own cable with I think some bicycle cable. I think he used a clamp to attach it to the stub of the existing drum end.
I'll keep an eye on it and plan as need be.
