I purchased a 97 9000 Aero with 62k and the wheel had about an inch of play. Unusual for any Saab. Owned 3 9000 prior and none had any play to speak of. The problem was solved by removing all the panels to access the end point of the column. At the end of the shaft is a female spline connection/clamp that mates with the male spline shaft from the rack. The bolt has picture on it. In my case the clamp wasn't tightened enough during the factory build. There is a u joint just above the clamp, so when you turned the wheel the u joint would allow the the lose clamp would slide up and down the rack spline causing the steering wheel slop. That action caused some wear on both parts after being that way for 100k. Cracking the loctite was the hard part.
