Today while driving the '95 CSE around, suddenly everything went dark and dead in the instrument panel and the AC cut out. (The HVAC fan kept running but would strangely speed up and down.) I was only about 5 miles from home so I managed to get the car back there. However, when pulling into the driveway the engine suddenly stalled out. (It had been running fine aside from no instruments or AC.) Now the engine will only run for a few seconds at a time and won't restart at all until it's been sitting a while.
I remember when the alternator in my '97 went bad there were some pretty funky symptoms. In this case though the battery voltage does not seem to be low since the starter cranks at full speed. (Right now the engine won't run long enough for me to take a voltage reading with the alternator going.) When turning the ignition on the charge and parking brake lights turn on, everything else stays dark.
This all happened right after getting gas but that has to be just a coincidence. I have not had time yet to really look at anything, this all happened just a few minutes ago. Where to start troubleshooting this?
