Yesterday while driving my '97 CSE the HVAC blower suddenly stopped working. Pulled over and checked the fuse and it was OK. So I figured, oh boy, here we go, have to do a PITA job of pulling the motor and probably finding a place to rebuild it since new ones seem to be unobtainium - every place I checked it was no longer available. (The blower motor is not original, it's a Bosch motor I installed shortly after buying the car in 2011. So it's not new, but not decades old either.)
The last time I had a problem was a couple of years ago when the blower suddenly stopped working and I found the wiring looked like this:
The connector on the controller was damaged by high heat as well. At the time there was concern that the motor was drawing too much current, but comparing current draw with another 9000 that had a new one they were the same, so I chalked it up to corrosion in the connection causing resistance and heat. I cleaned the contacts and replaced the connector housing and controller.
So I went out this morning and opened up the aquarium to take out the controller, expecting the worst. What I found though was that one of power wires had simply pulled free from the plastic shell and controller contact. There was no sign of overheating, burned plastic, or any other kind of distress. So I seated the wire back in place and it's working fine now.
Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket today!
