SUCCESS !! (Defeated '97 Aero alarm system.) Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Fri, 4 Aug 2023 19:53:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Final details in my follow-up, below.
This process has moved along very slowly for me for a number of reasons, the biggest being health related - that is why it may look like I'm taking baby steps.
After the doggone alarm system went nutz on me I posted asking for more info here and thankfully did get some great info from Bernie, which is here:
https://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9000/index.html?bID=320850
My main obstacle was just getting the alarm module freed up as it is mounted in the worst possible place - and I finally managed to get it free.
Until I did that its exact part number was still a mystery - it is 4550117, and just for yuks I searched to see if any replacements were being offered, and found one here:
https://www.esaabparts.com/saab/parts/4550117
(There's also one at fleabay for a 'mere' $500 nyuk, nyuk, nyuk !!)
IIRC, on on both of my '94 Aeros this thing was yellow and mounted next to the orange SRS box, vs. on this '97 the box is just metallic with a yellow plug & there is no SRS box next to it.
Having that nasty alarm box in-hand, it occurred to me that maybe 2 options could exist:
1 - Remove it completely after doing the splices Bernie suggested...or;
2 - Carefully just snip & splice those wires whilst leaving the box connected otherwise.
It is easy enough to verify that it immobilizes the car by simply disconnecting it - after which the fuel pump does not run, nor will it crank - then simply reconnecting it allows the car to start & run again.
If anyone has info to add here it will be hugely appreciated !!
