SOC 2024 and Windshield Posted by skibumm100 [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I drove the 97 9000 Aero from MI to Portland, OR for SOC 2024. Car was a bit doggy at lower RPM and had no giddy up until the revs were up to about 3k. Cranked for a bit when starting before it would fire. At lower speeds it was surging a little. I took two spare DI's with me for the trip so I changed it out before the trip home. That seemed to fix that problem for the most part.
I also took a stone to the windshield in Montana and it put a chip and a small spider web about the size of a quarter right in the middle of the windshield. I plan on taking it somewhere to have it filled and see how it turns out. I've done DIY repairs on smaller chips but this one is bigger so I'd rather pay a shop a couple bucks.
Somewhere in South Dakota I drove through a cloud of freshly splattered skunk and the smell stuck with us most of the way home. I can still smell it a little, but not too bad. I never did see the carcass or skunk but I definitely smelled it when we drove through the "cloud".
I won 2nd place in People's Choice in the 9000 category after washing off 20 pounds worth of dead bugs from the trip. I won second last year in Chicago with it, too. First place went to a red early style 9000 with a Toppola camper on it. That was pretty cool. Never saw one of those before. Long story behind getting that car ready for SOC.
Thanks to Scott at Saabnet for the pass! Next year is in the northeast so we'll be going there, too.
It's a good time.
