Is the smoke really white? I would expect it to be blue if the lost oil is getting burnt.
How many miles does a week of driving represent?
I bored everyone on the board silly about my '96 Aero that was doing what yours seems to be doing, only the smoke was almost constant. It was burning a litre (a bit more than a quart) of oil every 400 miles. Turns out the turbo was leaking oil into the exhaust.
To figure out whether the oil is burning in the cylinders, check the spark plugs, preferably after a long run to burn off any "about town" deposits. The insulator should look dry, with grey-brown deposits. You don't say what mileage is on the car, but if the engine is burning oil, it probably wouldn't be in all cylinders to the same degree and some of the plugs would look different to the others.
If the plugs all look similar and fairly normal, the oil is entering the exhaust further downstream. The most likely point in this case is the turbo.
