This is a very common problem caused by the breakdown of the adhesive between the cloth and the foam backing.
Saabs' glue is holding but the headliner fabric has broken down (heat causes it).
For the six Saabs I have owned, five have had this disease. The only real fix is to do a headliner.
I use naugahyde in an available/best matching color (read that as what ever I can scrounge up). Due to thickness the 'hyde will wrinkle a bit but that adds a look of custom upholtery . To assure that it never falls again I use the Brass button paper fastners that you push through and spread the back wings apart. If you plan a pattern (like diamond) it looks pretty good and you have a custom headliner unlike anyone else. My 90 9K is due now for the operation. Spray the clip heads with laquer to delay the dulling unless you like tarnished brass, & Quality adhesive is a major factor in success.
