For some eighties 16 valve engines. This was due to certin driving conditions in the winter with the heat on. In stop and go traffic, the heat would slowly decrease in the car. A way around it was to drill holes in the thermostat to by pass and allow more coolent flow to the heater core under the above conditions. Around 1988, saab made available an electric coolent pump to correct the condition. This pump fits near the coolent bottle and pumps a constant flow of hot coolent to the heater core.
