The two in-dash speakers can effectively be replaced by one 4" speaker on each side. I choose to buy a very nice set of Boston RX 4 coaxial speakers for the front. My reasoning is that speakers that are this small typically don't have a nice sound; but unfortunately, they are the closest speakers to the driver and are usually the most audible. The Boston's, which sell for close to 100, sound unusually nice for speakers of this size. I thought the investment was very worthwhile.
In the rear, I modified the mounting hardware to accept a set of 6x9 speakers that I already had rather than use the factory set up. It wasn't very hard to modify, I simply used some thin fiber board and made a new template for the 6x9s and attached them to the factory location.
If you are not interested in making any modifications and are looking for good quality speakers with a minimum of hassle for installation, visit the Crutchfield website. They can send you a catalog or fix you up with new speakers with a minimum of hassle. I have had good experiences with their sales staff as well. Good luck.
