As many of the other posts note, leaving the engine idle to warm up and/or driving a short distance in the cold is not good for the engine. Low engine speeds produce more pollutants and some of these are acidic - bad ofr engine oil, exhaust pipes. Get the car moving as soon as possible but don't try to accelerate hard. Take a long drive 25-30 miles each weekend to be sure the oil gets hot and 'boils' off any pollutants. And to help get the engine warm quickly on cold mornings - place a piece of cardboard to block about half the radiator (same idea as the blind you see on front of semi rigs in winter).
