Greetings from across the pond. I had a '89 9000 2.0 Turbo Carlsson until 1 Nov 00. The 9000 Carlssons were fitted out at the factory with Carlsson tuning bits as a complete package. Full body kit including deeper front spoiler (air dam?), large rear spoiler. 16" alloy wheels (of various types) with 205/50 ZR16 tyres, lowered suspension, up-rated shocks, improved exhaust, ran higher boost 204 bhp on the B202 engine (so up from 185 bhp on the standard 9000T, or 175 bhp if it had a cat). It went like a scalded cat! Its the only car that I have driven where the scenery in one's peripheral vision goes blurred! There were very few cars that could challenge you! I remembering cruising at 110 mph on the A30 (dual carriageway) North of Dartmoor. The cruise control held it steady up and down inclines and left me to concentrate on the surprisingly twisty road that the A30 had become at that speed, all in the wee small hours!!
The give away as to whether the model is a Carlsson is the pinstriping down the side that has Carlsson written in red script on the rear 3/4 panel. My car was jet black.
Unfortunately a garage door salesman drove into the back of me at 80mph on the motorway. The rest of the traffic, including me were stationary at the time. I walked away with out a scratch.
I looked at at a gourgeous red '91 replacement. These were now with B234 engines (2.3 litre) and taken up to 225 bhp. Same body kit and all the other mods. They were produced in both the original 9000 and 9000 CSE body shells. Despite looking good the dealer found over £1500 worth of work to put it straight, including a whining turbo so I walked away.
Bottom line is you know when you have a Carlsson before you even start her up (I miss mine). I am now on a very different motoring experience for the time being.
This is my first time on this site. How do you post photos with these threads. I have got a few you may like to see.
