Well maybe I am. Maybe those of you own pre’90’s could come to my rescue. My Saab buddy here in LA (Aero owner) is constantly making fun of me when I tell him of my future plans with my ‘88. That includes, but not limited too, major paint job, new wheels, several APC upgrades, MSD ign, on and on. His logic is why put all that money into that little 2 liter when you could get an Aero and get more bang for your buck. Yeah, tell that to Steve C from BC. Well, I’m not going to argue that an Aero is faster and possibly more car to some people. But to me it’s the shape. I really like the shape of my ‘88. I think my ‘its more pleasing to the eye than the 93 and newer Aero’s like my friends. My opinion of course. But when I told him that I’m going to paint my white car silver he freaked. Sacrilegious he yelled. But I need to explain -The paint on my car is okay, no major rust, but the only thing I can’t stand is that the PO had installed rubber trim door guards that run down the whole length of the car. Ghastly looking. While it did protect them from dents it looks like they where purchased from JC Whitney. No offense to JC Whitney fans. I hoped that they where glued on but found that they were pop-rivited to the doors and fenders and MUST BE REMOVED. And in thinking I really am not a fan of white, as every damn car in this town is white, white, white. Recently I lucked out and purchased a hood, fenders, tailgate and doors from a pristine silver ‘88 from the yard. I have a buddy who is a master painter and in talking to him I decided to strip everything from the car (doors, trim, windows, bumpers, etc) and paint it Saab Silver. We’re not talking Earl Scheib here, as I will paint all the jams and as much of the engine compartment as possible. So, am I crazy? The price is reasonable as I am prepping most of the car myself and realize those of you Saab purists may be cringing. But I’m not talking about just a quick paint job where you’ll be able to see the previous white paint when you open the doors or tailgate. The car runs so perfect that the idea of selling it just because It’s white is maybe as foolish as trying to paint it silver. So, what’d you think? Is I crazy?
