Starter motor problems...revisited (kind of long)

About a year ago I started having problems with starting my 88 9000T. On occasions I would turn the key and nothing would happen - just a click. I figured it must be a starter motor problem, particularly as a sharp tap with a long stick on the starter motor would usually get things going again
So I replaced the starter motor with the one from my parts car. It worked fine for a couple of months, but then I started having the same problems.
So then I bought a new one (well, reconditioned)from my friends at Sobstory. I put this in sometime over the summer, and it's been fine until last night when I had the exact same problem. Once again a sharp tap on the motor (actually the solenoid) got it working again.
I find it hard to believe that I've had 3 bad starter motors in a row (granted two of them were used), so I'm wondering if there is just a bad connection down there? Before I brave the cold Ohio outdoors crawling underneath the car, does anybody have any other thoughts on what might be the problem? Is this a known Saab bugbear?
