The manuals are broken up by category and year. That's why a full set is $500 - you're buying every electrical manual from 1986 on.
Since you only have '97's, you're in good shape. I don't have the part numbers handy, and the Townsend site isn't up right now to check. But first and foremost, get the Comprehensive Electrical Supplement for 1997. It's the best damn electrical manual I've ever seen. Last time I bought one it was about $25. With the electrical manual, you are most of the way there.
Next, buy yourself the 9000 Haynes manual. Yes, I know, it's the UK edition, and isn't that great. But there haven't been that many changes, and it will give you most of the information you need. You just want to change the brake pads, find the lifiting points, or see what the suspension looks like? It'll do it.
If you run into some thorny engine management problems, you can get the engine management manual for your system. I may have a copy at home so I can give you the part number. It covers a range of years - I think the '97 has the OBD II Trionic.
Unless you plan on doing an engine rebuild, you'll probably be just fine with the electrical supplement and the Haynes manual. If you can get the engine management manual, all the better, but probably not necessary unless big problem crop up. Remember, the 9000 didn't change all that much - except for wiring (which the electrical supplement covers), most things from the door latches to the window switches are the same dating back into the late '80s.
