The alternator supplies the car with voltage when the engine - the purpose of the battery is to supply power for starting. The battery also smooths things out a bit when the car is running. The battery doesn't care if the car is at 1500 rpm or 6200 rpm - the voltage regulator on the alternator should be keeping the output of the alternator constant - that's its job.

I suspect you have a voltage regulator/alternator problem. At higher RPM, the brushes in the alternator are 'bouncing' off the commutator, and good contact isn't being made. Yes, I know the alternator was just replaced. But that doesn't mean that it was replaced with a good one. Did you have this problem before the alternator was replaced?

Unless you have one of those really massive stereos, capable of breaking windows on 'medium', it isn't the problem. Running your fan motor at 3 and putting your foot on the brake pulls more electrical current than most stereos.

As usual, make sure the cables to the battery are in good shape and the contacts clean. Look for oxidation in the cables - like a white or greenish powder in the strands of the wires. If so, replace the cables. But if this problem showed up with the new alternator, have it replaced with a good one.
