Non turbo not so bad!

My previous car was an 84 Saab Turbo 5sp, which I really loved. I bought a 91 9000 non Turbo(2.3) with the 5 speed - partially because I used to get in a lot of trouble with my turbo. I have since found that my 91 non-turbo actually has a very simular performance envelope as did my old 900 turbo. The 9000 has no turbo lag and a higher compression ratio(10.5/1) - very quick off the line. Around town this is an advantage. It lacks the mid range torque of my turbo, but manages to top out only a few mph below my old 900 (My 900 would do an honest 125 - the 9000 will crest 120). The Turbo versions(2.3 turbo) of my car(the 91 9000) are quite a bit more powerful than my old 900(2.0 turbo), but my point is that the 91 non-turbo (5 speed) is not a bad power train, depending on your expectations. If you need a lot of power - get the Turbo - if you just need fun transportation, the non-turbo can do the job. Keep in mind - all is relative. Some may say if you want power, by a Ram Air Firebird or something like that. Even the 9000 turbo is a compromise as it is far from the ultimate in performance.
