Pro:
Limited Edition (400)
All saloons, no hatchbacks
Memory Power, heated - both front seats
All quality leather seating - 2 leathers
plush carpeting
built-in hands free phone
quality audio with 6 CD changer
185BHP engine (less than aero, more than standard)
4 speed autobox
did come with 800 hotline, 5year 80K warrantee (the 800 hotline is now a dealers hotline!)
And of course, the 9000 has more room than a 9-5 especially width in the back.
Con:
bad reliability - SAAB does sell a Griffin 9-5 in Europe but dare not use the name in the USA
for proof of this: check the service record under warrantee repairs....
in particular:
electrics -
traction control system - does not have off switch (can be added)
if the tcs freezes on it is a major headache
SRS (the one airbag - driver only) - check that the recall has been done; bad wiring brings the light on and disables the airbag
radio to code - bad earth cable etc
overheating - general problem with SAAB engines of this vintage
rear airconditioning - a nice feature but more pipes to leak fluid
no cupholders - for the front can be remedied with early Ford Taurus parts
(there are instructions for this on the web)

Looked after by a good service dept (seemingly rare in the SAAB world these days) this is a great car and should last many years although it will cost more than many cars to keep on the road due to SAAB's traditional very high parts pricing. Looked after it will become a collectors car.

Does anyone know how many of the original 400 in the USA are still on the road?
