A salvage yard ECU shouldn't be any more than $250, and could be as
little as half that, if you're lucky. Try giving B&D (Greenleaf) in MA
a call - they have an 800 no. They have quite a few 9000's in the yard.
They charge the same for all T-5 Trionics, so if you can find the no's
for an Aero, it wont cost anymore than a 200 hp ECU. The Aero ECU is
the same for '94-'98 (make sure it's a manual, the automatic is only
200 hp). I have a modified ECU that was done by a Swedish company
called TAQ. The company is actually a couple of guys that work at
the engine development plant in Sweden and do s/w mod's, with the
blessings of Saab of course, on the side. With a calibrated pressure
gauge, my peak boost is about 21 psi in either 3rd, 4th or 5th gear -
the boost limitation in 1st and 2nd gear and the stock base boost/APC
control remains intact. With a 3" exhaust system, the ECU, and a K&N
cone filter, I'm probably getting over 260 hp - haven't done a dyno, yet!
However, by subjective seat of the pants analysis, I can safely say this
car screams, especially on the highway. There's not too many vehicles,
V8's or other turbo's, that can keep up with it. I'd highly recommend the
JT 3"downpipe @ $180 - it's well constructed of aluminized steel and includes the threaded boss for the O2 sensor and a piece of flex pipe.
