Use a socket to get the engine in the approximately correct position, then substitute a breaker bar to jockey the engine back and forth to the exact position you want. Make sure the car is out of gear, and if you are having problems getting the engine to stay in the right position, you can take all of the spark plugs out, which will relieve compression.
