Same thing happened to mine some years ago. I stripped the old laquer off but not touching the painted part of the wheels. Then I just polish the aluminium with Autosol, the best metal polish I've found. Depends where you live as to the salt content put on the roads in winter, but in England there is quite a lot and obviously the rims corrode, but they just need buffung up again. I remove the corrosion with steel wool, then polish again. I guees you could always re laguer the rims again.
