Fit higher wattage bulbs to '96 UK-spec headlamps?

I would like to fit higher wattage headlamp bulbs to my '96 9000 Aero, UK-spec. I'm aware of the legal position. These are the twin headlamps with two H1 bulbs per unit - one for main and one for dip.
Although the owner's handbook warns against it, has anyone tried fitting, say, 100W (or even 130W) main beam bulbs? Although I believe this wouldn't be the case for a US-spec car, the electrics, and even the standard fuses, look up to the job. Bearing this in mind, does anyone know for certain any other limitation? e.g. will the power dissipation requirement be too much for the headlamp unit itself? What about 80W dip as well, bearing in mind that I believe the dipped beam is not switched off when the main beam is on? (I'm still aware of the legal implications, and probably wouldn't go this far, as my dipped beam affects others on the road).
