For any boost problems, the first (and one of the easiest) things to check is your vacuum lines. If they've not all been replaced in many years, chances are they're shot. Even if they don't look broken, feel them and see, if they've hardened, they may be cracked somewhere you can't see. I replaced all mine with silicon hose from hosetechniques.com, and the stuff is supposed to last almost forever. If all those look intact, check your hooter-valve: you shouldn't be able to suck/blow into the hose connected to its inlet. Even if you can't, there have been reports of bad valves that don't pass the normal "suck/blow" test, I.E. they still hold vacuum, but upon replacement, the problem was solved. If it's old enough it may be ruptured or otherwise compromised, replacements are under $30 at many places for the standard Bosch valve, though you can spend up to hundreds for "upgraded" or "high-pressure" valves, that you will need with modified (boost altered) engines. Are you running stock, or modified?
