Had exactly the same symptoms as you - turned out there was a small fuel leak at a fuel check valve in the engine compartment (small enough for one shop not to spot it at all). The buzzing that I heard was due to the fact that the pump had to work so hard to get the correct amount of fuel to the front of the car - at least that's what seems logical. Fixed the check valve and everything went back to normal (2 months and counting). Don't know if this is the case for you but it's worth checking out.
