If that's all three motor mounts for $450, that's not too bad. The water pump for $205 is very good, but, it's probably using a GMB water pump, which some don't like at all compared to the OE/Saab pump. FWIW though, I have had a GMB pump in my car for over 90k without problem.. The control arm bushings sound about right, though for that price, you could probably have Abbott polyurethane bushings instead of the regular, which reportedly make a huge difference. Belts and tensioner (pulley?) sound ok.
So that leaves us with the timing chain. First off, why does he think it need replacing? It's rare for a chain to actually need replacing on the 2.0l engine as you have. Unless perhaps, it had been run for a huge amount of time without the updated tensioner, or the car has gotten 10,000 mile oil changes on regular oil it's whole life or something stupid... As I understand it, an '89 should already have the updated chain tensioner. I'm still on the original chain in my '87, at 252k miles. I'd ask for some detailed explanation as to why he wants to replace the chain.
How many miles are on the car, and does it make a lot of racket?
