As for the EQ, there are a lot of installers out there who don't know much. Anything is possible, it's just how much time/money do you want to spend on it? For the amount of time an installer would spend on getting your EQ hooked up (or at least, how much they would charge you), they could as just as easily have sold you a brand new EQ.
Frankly, my Saab hasn't been harder to work on than any other car. In fact, it's been noticeably easier than my '79 Honda was. Also, on any car, if you are willing/expecting to just ditch more or less the whole existing system, it's no sweat. It's where you try to integrate some stock components with aftermarket components, that things can get tricky.
I like the Tokyo, though not as much as my Toronto. It has a far better tuner than my Blaupunkt though, and also much higher signal to noise ratio (108 dB vs. 96 dB I think - or maybe mine is 90?). Some people argue that once you get over 85 dB signal to noise ratio, it doesn't matter, but I would beg to differ. It's not just S/N though, there's also a measurement called background noise. My last deck, a Kenwood Excelon unit, was dead silent when it was on and no music was playing, or between tracks on a CD. My Blaupunkt, unfortunately, produces an audible hiss through the speakers any time it's on, which is the same level regardless of the volume control setting (even at 0). This really is picking nits, especially since you only hear it if the engine is off, or if you know what to listen for, but I like my stereos without hiss! :) Anyhow the whole point I'm making, is that I think the Tokyo should be a much quieter deck than my Toronto. I don't like the ergonomics of the Tokyo compared to my deck, but it helps to have the Thummer remote. What are you gonna do...older deck with slightly lower sound quality and far worse tuner, or newer deck with worse ergonomics..
As for appearances though, I think the Tokyo will fit in a 9000 dash pretty well, better than most aftermarket decks. I think the key is the flat face, which matches well with the ACC and EQ. FWIW, I think my Blaupunkt decks look more stock than the Clarion my car came with, and most people who ride in my car think it is the stock system. :) Fine with me!
Anyhow, rambling on as usual..
