I recently purchased a 93 9000cde turbo. I've had saab 900's in the past and am pretty familiar with all the things that can go wrong with that model and their symptoms.

I'll take the car to my mechanic next week but I want to be armed before hand with enough info as possible so I can communicate better what the problems are.

1) I smell antifreeze inside the car. (I know in the 900, that symptom coupled with antifreeze dripping on your feet meant a heater core replacement)

2) Inside the car, I can't hear the engine at idle. However, when I get out of the car, I hear a noise that sounds like noisy lifters but I don't hear it all the time. I'll check and see if something is loose when it gets warmer outside. The performance is way better than my 900 spg so I'm hoping it's not lifters (or some other expensive repair.)

3) When changing gears, especially 1 & 2, the clutch "take up" is kind of "juddery." I mean sometimes this otherwise very smooth car vibrates and makes an unsmooth noise. I'm thinking the clutch plate is worn. Also, the shaking and noise is really evident when starting to reverse. I suppose if I revved to a higer rpm and eased off the clutch really really slowly, shifting would be smoother. But I don't think it is normal to do this. Even when down shifting from lets say 4th to 3rd, there is a "juddery" noise and feel for a moment.

4) This one is a minor problem but I know it will annoy me more as I drive the car more. When I turn off the climate control, I can still hear something "running." It sounds like a little motor or something. Is this normal for this car. Of course I only hear it when the car is idling (no road noise etc.) but, I wonder if it is a sign of a future component failure.

5) Another minor problem I can probably live with is that the dome light and trunk light doesn't work when it should. The inner door light turns on when a door is opened but the dome light doesn't come on. I've tried the switch in all 3 positions. In the middle it is off but the other two positions will turn it on. Also, when I open the trunk, the light doesn't come on. Is it possible that the wiring is connected wrong???

Thanks for any responses.
