Confusion abound about flex pipes but I think the confusion...

stemmed from different model years.
For an older 9K such as for a '92, the flex pipe is PART OF THE DOWN PIPE. Yes, you need to replace the whole thing and it would cost about $600 from the dealer (guess how I found out :-).
Now if you have a late model 9K like Robert D., then the flex pipe is a lot cheaper to replace because the flex pipe is now placed behind the cat and it's about a foot and a half long. I think the dealer wants $90 or so for this new style flex pipe but I think you can get one for $60 from some Saabnet sponors.
Yes, you can cut the middle muffler off and put in a straight pipe but this has nothing to do with the flex pipe.
I hope this clears things up a bit.
