Motor mount questions

Hi, My 86 9000T, 182K, manual, needs to have the motor mounts replaced. I plan on doing this myself in the next couple of weeks. It will be my first DIY on a SAAB. I have read Quasi's info and the Townsend site. I have a couple of questions. Does the limiting bracket on the front motor mount come off so you can modify it to limit the amount of motor mount travel? From what I read Quasi said no and for some reason I think the Townsend site gave me the impression that it does. Quasi said that you should limit the motor mount travel to 1/2 inch instead of Townsend's 3/4 inch to increase life of the mount. To do this can you just add an additional piece of AC hose to limited the travel to 1/2 inch? I am also confused on this U-shaped washer that has to go in a certain way. Can someone give a better description to where it is located and what it does. Thanks for any replies.
