My first saab was an 88 9k with 171k on it. It had never been run with synthetic in it until I bought it. I swithched it over to castrol sytec 5w-50 which is what I use now in my 92. Anyways, when I changed to the sythetic I was expecting some oil leaks, but in the winter when I changed to mobil 1 0w-30 I still had no problems. I noticed that with sythetic the turbo seem to spin up faster, and the engine was far far far far smoother. I idle still sucked but the engine was smooth. Now I don't know if this is all in my head but when I sold my 88 with 203k on it, the person that bought it said that it ran great and they thougth the overall performace was better than most saabs with 200k on them. Switch it is worth the money. Also if you have an auto trans, pay the 100-150 dollars and switch out your tranny fluid to mobil 1 atf. I can not say enough about what difference it has made in my recently changed 30k on the new trans. Smoother shifting, doesn't get stuck in 1st or 2nd when it is really cold, shifts into 4th smoother. Does not seem slugish in the winter anymore.
Thanks,
jeffla
