I have personal recent experience with Edmunds.com, for a special reason: I bought my 97 '9000cs last month, and was guided by their prices. I was very pleased, until I happened to check their March appraisal values: incredibly they had dropped by $2k for the identical car and condition/mileage/options input ! All in the space of less than a month (10 days, really). I am in communication with them by email.

Without checking, if you try Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) and NADA (nada.com or nadaguides.com, I think - use lycos to find it), I would bet that the Edmunds Dealer/Retail value for your car is LOWER than the Trade-in/Wholesale values per Kelly and NADA; which means there is clearly something like a $4k discrepancy is appraisal !

So, I would certainly print-out an Edmunds appraisal to show to the dealer as a negotiation point (actually get them to run it on their own internet connection while you're there); but take it with a grain of salt. For a '96, I would suspect it says $13k-$14k dealer price for your car; try for $14k, but they may succeed in selling it to someone else for more.

Actually now is a good time to buy, because prices may have been recently depressed due to Saab enticing folks to buy new - there were $5k incentives on the new 9-3s that just expired, and people may have been going for these instead of the late used models.
