3/4 way up on the gage is normal. Mine goes between 3/4 (in traffic) and 1/2 (driving). As long as it's not in the red, it's fine. Apparantly a lot of customers were anxious about this, so Saab calibrated the gages in later models, so that you don't see those fluxuations. The townsend website has a lot of good information and bulletins about this. They also describe some "fixes", like wiring the relays so both fans come on and installing a lower temp thermostat and rad fan switch.
