I had a 86 9000T in several weeks ago that had a BAD case of grind on selecting reverse with the motor running. I thought that it was a internal problem with the reverse brake inside the trans. I recall seeing a bulletin on it back in 87 or 88. It was a design problem. Anyway ...This was not the case.
IT WAS THE CLUTCH!
I use only Genuine Saab Clutch Kits. Saab has redesigned the clutch kits on the 86-90 9000T. Those who know 900 clutches no what I mean between old and new style. The clutch in this 9000T performed perfect and still had life left on it. It was getting close though. I was doing the rear seal on this 9000 and got the clutch while I was in there. BTW it was a leaking backing plate gasket that would puddel on the floor after setting for 10 minutes.
When I got done with the job ....NO MORE GRIND. The new style clutch fixed it. It sure had me fooled. Thought I would share what I learned.
