Broke T-chain Questions

Hello all. I just bought a '92 9000t with a broken timing chain on the 2.3l engine. I haven't pulled the head off yet, so I don't know exactly how much damage there is. Is it possible that there is NO valve or piston damage (I know, wishful thinking)? If the head is destroyed, will a 2.0 head from an '88t work?
One last question. Because I purchased this car already broken, from an auction, I don't know if everything else was working ok. So my question is, how freely should the turbo spin (by hand) if it hasn't been run in over two months?
Thanks
BigTim
